This getting started guide explains the basic workflow for using the online TI-84-style graphing calculator. It is written for students who want to start quickly, teachers who need a browser-based practice tool, and anyone who wants calculator help without installing desktop software.
Open the calculator
Use the main calculator page when you want the full landing page, instructions and FAQ. Use App Mode when you want the calculator to feel closer to a phone app.
On mobile, App Mode reduces extra content and keeps the calculator centered. You can also use the browser menu to add the site to the home screen when your browser supports Progressive Web Apps.
Basic keys to know first
The most important keys are ON, ENTER, CLEAR, DEL, 2nd, ALPHA, Y=, GRAPH, TRACE and STAT.
Treat the on-screen calculator like a physical calculator. Tap or click a key, wait for the display to respond, and use ENTER to evaluate an expression.
Try your first calculation
Enter a simple expression such as 78+15, then press ENTER. For powers, use the exponent key. For negative numbers, use the negative sign key rather than the subtraction key when the negative value is part of a number.
When something looks wrong, press CLEAR once to clear the current line. Press it again when you need to leave a menu or clean up the screen.
Use the calculator for graphing
Press Y=, enter an equation such as X^2-4, then press GRAPH. Use WINDOW or ZOOM if the graph is too small, too large, or outside the visible area.
For classroom practice, start with simple functions: linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions. Then move to tables, trace and intersections.
Best first settings
For most algebra and graphing practice, Normal, Float and Function mode are good defaults. For trigonometry, check Degree or Radian carefully because this setting changes sine, cosine and tangent answers.
If graphing becomes confusing, use Zoom Standard or reset the window values to a typical view such as Xmin -10, Xmax 10, Ymin -10, Ymax 10.
Quick reference table
| Task | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Basic arithmetic | Type the expression and press ENTER |
| Graph an equation | Y= → enter expression → GRAPH |
| Enter data | STAT → EDIT → add values to L1 or L2 |
| Change angle unit | MODE → Degree or Radian |
| Install like app | Open App Mode or use browser Add to Home Screen |
